In Papua New Guinea, 70% of people do not have access to clean drinking water, and that percentage is even higher in rural areas. By building water tanks, latrines, and showers and by promoting good hygiene, Oxfam is helping over 32,000 people stay healthy.
Before Oxfam’s programme, families would have to travel 2-3 hours each day to the nearest water source.
“Now,” Lavin (pictured) says, “we just walk outside our house, and we can get a cup of water to drink.”
All of Oxfam’s work aims to change unfair underlying systems, so that everyone has the education, resources, and opportunities they need not just to survive, but thrive.
